Licenses for undocumented immigrants in Connecticut

 

 

Public Act No. 13-89 requires the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to issue driver's licenses to people who can not provide proof of DMV legal immigration status in the United States or a Social Security number (SSN). The license allows the holder to drive only; Can not be used for federal identification purposes (eg on a plane) or as proof of identity to vote. Commissioner prohibits the issuance of a license to a person convicted of a felony in Connecticut.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Requirements for new licenses to undocumented Connecticut:

 

 

1. Having two proofs of residency which can be:

      

Primary Proof of Identity 

 

  • ï‚· valid or expired for less than 3 years Passport; 

  • ï‚· A valid Consular Identification of the country of origin 

  • ï‚· A birth certificate issued by the Consulate 

 

Secondary Proof of Identity 

 

  • ï‚· Valid driver's license and current with security features issued by another state or country; 

  • ï‚· Registration Card valid foreign voter; 

  • ï‚· Copy of marriage certificate issued in any state of the United States; 

  • ï‚· Certified School Transcript 

  • ï‚· Certificate of Baptism or similar document.

 

2. Having Two proofs of residency which can be:

 

  • An account of the bank or mortgage company, credit card company or a hospital bill or a bill from a doctor; 

  • A state of the Bank or a transaction receipt showing the name and address of the bank;

  • A pre-printed pay stub; 

  • A tax on the property dated no earlier than 12 months. Prior to the application; 

  • An annual statement of plan benefits or Social Security Administration pension or retirement date not earlier than 12 months before the application; 

  • Current insurance policy for your home or renters, or your insurance card carrier, or insurance policy no earlier than 12 months prior to application; 

  • A statement Medicaid or Medicare; 

  • Lease, showing signatures of both parties need to execute the contract no earlier than 12 months prior to application; 

  • Any mail with seal; 

  • Confirmation of a change of address given by the US Postal Service (US 

  • Postal Service) indicating the current and previous address of the applicant; 

  • A survey of property of the applicant issued by an approved expert or any official registration granted by the school.

 

3. Get certified as having completed the required 8 hours of Alcohol and Drugs:
